Small All Occasion Box Tutorial

I know it has been awhile since I have done a tutorial. So.....being a holiday weekend and our trip to the lake has been canceled
I decided it was the time of year where I should be thinking about little holiday gifts. Well, we always need a small box of sorts to put these little gifts into.

This first little box is a Christmas box. It is hard to see in the photo but some of the flowers are cut out and mounted onto dimensionals so they are more 3-D. The tag I used my white gel pen on to tie into the striped ribbon.

This is my Fall Box. It is made the same was as the Christmas box. This box is so easy to change the dimensions on and make it wider or taller or the sides up higher etc. The flowers on this box are cut out using the big shot.

Onto the directions. If you use 12 x 12 cardstock, you can get two boxes out of one piece.

Supplies needed:
Cardstock: either 1 sheet 12 x 12 or 8-1/2 x 11
Designer series paper
Sticky Strip
Scor-Pal or Paper cutter with a scoring blade
Embellishments
Ribbon
Scissors
Horizontal Slit punch, crop-a-dile or regular 1/4" hole punch (to punch your ribbon holes).
Please read through all directions before starting. I have been know to type the directions incorrectly. Sorry for any typing errors. If you find a mistake, please let me know so I can correct it. Thanks.

Step #1
Cut your cardstock 6" x 11"
With the 11" side at the top, score your cardstock at 4-1/2" and 6-1/2"

Step #2
Turn your cardstock so the 6" side is at the top and score at 1-1/4" and 4-3/4".

Step #3
This is the step you can change the height of your box sides.
On some of the boxes I cut up 2-1/4" or if you want taller sides cut at 1-1/2".
If you look at the picture, you can see where I have cut the section out on all four sides. This box I cut at 2-1/4".

This photo shows all four side a bit better.
Step #4
Now using your scissors or your paper cutter, continue cutting until you reach the center score line. This actually give your flaps. See next photo if still confused. This is where I adhere the designer series paper to the front and back of the box. Depending on what side you have made your box I just measure 1/4" smaller all around and cut my designer paper accordingly.

Step #5
With your sticky strip you will put a strip at the top of the flap on the inside on the right and on the outside of the flaps on the left. The reasons the tape is on the inside and the outside on opposite sides as it will hold your box closed better. Remove the protective strip on the right and bring to the middle of your box. Bring the left side in and press together. Remove the protective strips on the left side and press together. (If you are good you can remove all four protective strips at the same time and press together.

This is the way it should look to this point.

Step #6
Apply your sticky strip to the top rim on two opposing sides only.

Step #7
Remove the protective strip and bring your side up to adhere to the box part of your middle.

Step #8
Repeat step seven with the other side.
This is what it should look like now

Depending on the size of the ribbon you plan on using depends on what I use to punch the holes for my ribbon. Punch your holes, thread your ribbon through and tie.
Decorate any way you want with lots of embellishments.

Christmas Box

The Gray box has the sides cut at 1-1/2 (the piece you take out) which makes the sides taller.

The little tag fronts were made from the cardstock that was cut out from the box. I just used the tag punch then the horizontal slit punch to make my tags.

If you have any problems, just e-mail me and I will try to help.

Happy Stamping, Paula

Paula, I love your little box! I definitely want to make one. One question: what are the dimensions of the finished box? I can't really tell how big or small it is. Or could you post a picture of it with an object (even a ruler) to give an idea. Thanks, sweetie!
