BACKPACK - TUTORIAL

I know a lot of you stampers out there have been waiting for this tutorial. I thought I would post it while I am on vacation to give you all something to do while I am gone.

Supplies Needed:

Scor-Pal or Paper cutter with a scoring blade
Scissors
Corner Rounder
4- Jumbo eyelets
Scor Tape or Sticky Strip tape
2- 8-1/2” x 11” sheets of cardstock
1 sheet designer series paper
2- 10” pieces of ribbon
Velcro Dots
Embellishments of choice

Step #1
On your first sheet of cardstock with the 11” side at the top, score at 1-3/4”, 5-1/4”, 7” and 10-1/2”.

Step #1A
Turn your cardstock so the 8-1/2” side is at the top and score at 6” and 7-3/4” only of the large part of the two bottom flap pieces

Step #2
Cut away the cardstock that has the scribble marks as shown in photo one. Also cut away the small strip on the ½” side only to the first complete score line.

Step #3
From the bottom of your cardstock, cut on the vertical score lines up the first Horizontal score line.

Step #4
With your second piece of cardstock, you will be cutting three different pieces. Piece #1 is 5-3/4: x 3-3/4”, Piece #2 is cut at 4” X 3-1/2” and piece #3 is cut at 2-3/4” x 3-1/2”.
With Piece #1 Place the 3-3/4” side at the top of your Scor Pal. Score at ¼” and ½”. Turn your cardstock 180˚ and score again at ¼” and ½”. Turn your cardstock so the 5-3/4” side is at the top and score at 2-3/4” and 3”.

With Piece #2 Place the 4” side at the top of your Scor Pal and score at 1-1/2” and 1-3/4”.

With Piece #3 Place the 3-1/2” side at the top of your Scor Pal and score at 1-1/2” and 1-3/4”.

Step #5

With your corner rounder, round the 2 corners on the longest end of pieces #2 and #3, these are your flaps. Set Aside.

Step #6
This piece is your pocket on the front of your backpack. Cut away the two sidepieces only to the first score line at the middle of the cardstock. Cut your little tabs in the middle just to the second score line. Crease all score lines.

Step #7
Cut your designer series paper to go onto all of your pieces. The front of your backpack you will need a piece that is 5-3/4” x 3-1/4”

For piece #1 (your pocket) you will need a piece of designer paper that is 2-1/2” x 2-1/2” For piece #2 (your large flap) cut your designer paper 3-1/4” x 2”. You will use your corner rounder to round only 2 corners on the longest edge. For piece #3 (your small flap) cut your designer paper 1-1/2” x 2-1/2”. Round only two of the corners on the longest edge. Adhere all of your designer paper to the proper pieces of cardstock.

Step #8
With your largest flap (Piece #2) you will place several pieces of sticky strip to the inside bottom of your cardstock flap. You will then adhere this to the inside top of your backpack being careful to line everything up.

This photo shows designer paper on the inside, don’t be thrown by that, I put the paper on the inside and outside of this particular backpack.

Step #9
You will now mark where you want your jumbo eyelets to go. Punch your holes for your eyelets then set your eyelets.

Step #10 Now you are ready to thread your ribbon through your eyelets. I just tied a knot in each end to hold them in place. My ribbon is 5/8”. If you use smaller ribbon you will need to tie a double knot.

Step #11
Putting your backpack together. Run a couple of strips of sticky strip on the ½” scored strip. This will attach to a side of your backpack.

Be careful in lining everything up. Practice which way you want your bottom folded so you will know what part to place your sticky strip on. I normally use my front flap to fold to the back so it looks nice from the front. Place your sticky strip remove the protective strip and adhere together.

Step #12
Fold together your backpack pocket and adhere together. You will now add your pocket flap adhering with sticky strip. Now place sticky strip onto the back of your pocket and adhere to the front of your backpack.
You want to place it about ¾” from the bottom so you have room for the backpack flap to close.

Step #13
Before adding your Velcro closures, may sure your gently squeeze the sides (like a milk carton) so you will know where your closure should go on your top flap. Now you will add your little Velcro tabs to both your pocket flap and your top flap.

Step #14

All that is left are your embellishments.

Aren’t these just too much fun.
For back to school night we made them for the teachers. They held Kleenex (small package), band aids, antiseptic cream, Emory Board, Post it notes and anything else we could fit that was small that a teacher could use in every day life at school.

We are making a bunch for Christmas. They will be stuffed with cookies, candies, and my favorite, fudge. Also some will have mini bottles of lotion and bubble bath. Let your imagination run wild
. Have fun with these.

Happy Stamping, Paula
